Feeling Stuck and Frustrated? Here’s How to Let Go and Let God

Just “let go and let God.”

We’ve all heard this advice, “let go and let God,” countless times. But does it really work?

In this article, Erika Awakening shares her experience about how to make the cliched advice “let go and let God” into a practical and workable way of living:

Hi, this is Erika Awakening, founder of this website and the revolutionary miracle coaching method Holistic Belief Reprogramming (HBR).

I don’t know about you, but when my life was not working a few years ago, this advice drove me batty! I would try to “let go and let God,” and nothing was getting any better. I still had my obsessive, over-controlling thinking. I still had my problems. God didn’t seem to be taking care of anything!

So I think we need a much deeper understanding of exactly what it really means to “let go and let God” before it’s going to be practical advice for most people. In this lens, I’ll do my best to provide a practical guide for letting go and letting God.

Let Go and Let God by Developing an Intimate Relationship with God

I can tell you it’s going to be pretty tough to let go and let God unless you have an intimate relationship with God.

For most people, God is the “man in the sky.” Many people think of God as judgmental or punishing or distant. Those with a Christian background have seen countless bloody images of Christ on the cross, and attribute that “sacrifice” to God. That’s what God does to his Son, in the traditional thinking. And if we are thinking of God in that way, whether consciously or unconsciously, we are not going to trust Him. If we don’t trust God, then no matter how much we say we want to “let go and let God,” it’s not going to happen.

My intimate relationship with God began at the very end of 2005, when I began meditating. Less than two months later, I had a near-death experience. A routine medical procedure went out of control, and I ended up in the hospital for a week. I was drowning and almost dehydrating to death at the same time, as the fluid in my blood vessels leaked out into my body. Immobilized and in great pain. Unable to sleep and unable to tolerate the pain killers without vomiting, I was put involuntarily into a state of surrender. And in that desperate state, that’s when I started talking to God for real.

There in my hospital bed, gazing at purple walls with moonlight streaming in the window, I asked God for another chance. It became clear that my life was in shambles. Although I had a “successful” career, I hated my life. I felt so disconnected from myself and other people. I did not have any meaningful sense of purpose. And here I was not sure whether I would ever make it out of that hospital.

I said: “God, if you give me another chance, I promise I will do it differently this time.”

Miraculously, my body began to recover. And in spite of the extremity of the situation and the fact that it took a couple of months to recover completely, I had no lasting damage to my body.

I got my second chance. And I kept my promise to God.

From the very day that I got out of the hospital, my life was never the same again.

Discovering A Course in Miracles And Learning That God Speaks to Us Through Our Intuition

When I got out of the hospital, I kept my promise to God. I spent several weeks in convalescence. Even when I returned to the office where I worked, I was physically very weak. So I listened to my body and stopped working overtime, and after that I rarely worked overtime again. (I wasn’t getting paid for the overtime anyway, so it was silly to be doing it.) This later became very important when I started my online business, because I used those evenings and weekends to create my online business.

Now, instead of working at my meaningless job during my free time, I began learning. I took a lot of classes and bought a lot of books and seminars. I knew the path that I was on was not the right path for me, but I didn’t really know where I was supposed to be in the world. Life was still very confusing for about a year after my near-death experience, and I actually hit rock bottom of despair a year later.

Two things came into my almost exactly one year after my near-death experience: the book A Course in Miracles, and the miraculous transformation method called Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT tapping).

I’ve written a lot of lenses about EFT tapping, so here I’m going to focus on A Course in Miracles.

This book changed my life completely.

One of many things I learned from A Course in Miracles is that God speaks to us all through the day. ACIM puts it this way:

“God’s Voice speaks to me all through the day. It is quite possible to listen to God’s Voice all through the day without interrupting your regular activities in any way. The part of your mind in which truth abides is in constant communication with God, whether you are aware of it or not. It is the other part of your mind that functions in the world and obeys the world’s laws. It is this part that is constantly distracted, disorganized and highly uncertain. The part that is listening to the Voice for God is calm, always at rest and wholly certain.”

At first, I did not know what this meant. God’s Voice is speaking to me all through the day?

Later, I figured out that God’s Voice is what we commonly call Intuition. And as my journey continued, I began to learn that my intuition is always right. And when I followed my intuition, I did not always understand where it was leading me, but good things began to happen.

It was intuition that led me to start my first blog, Awakening from the Dream.

I had no idea that my tiny blogspot blog would, within just a couple of years, turn into a six-figure life coaching and personal transformation business. But it did. And it happened because I trusted God. I trusted my intuition.

I learned to stop letting my ego run the show of my life. I learned to let go and let God.
