The conversation that I wish I had with Steve Jobs

Steve Jobs has passed over. And the abundance of appreciation for him that I see all over Facebook shows how much he contributed to our lives.

I *love* my iPhone. Who doesn’t *love* their iPhone? In many ways, it revolutionized my life, keeping pace with the internal transformation that was taking place for me at that time.

It keeps me connected. It keeps me in communication. From just about anywhere in the world.

Thank you, Steve Jobs.

I love most of the quotations from you that I see all over Facebook today. For example:

“You have to trust in something — your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever — because believing that the dots will connect down the road will give you the confidence to follow your heart, even when it leads you off the well-worn path.” – Steve Jobs

Beautiful. And maybe it’s because we weren’t ready to lose you on this plane, Steve, but there is a conversation I wish we’d had while you were still here in physical form.

A conversation about your belief in death. Because all of our beliefs are self-fulfilling prophecies. And I wish you were still here with us.

So, for example, you’ve also been quoted as saying:

“Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life.”

Well, I agree with you fully that living according to other people’s expectations is not a recipe for happiness or success. But why did you believe that your time is limited? Look how that has become a self-fulfilling prophecy, Steve … How could your time possibly be limited when, as an all-powerful child of God, you created time …

And here’s another one:

“Remembering that I’ll be dead soon is the most important tool I’ve ever encountered to help me make the big choices in life. Because almost everything — all external expectations, all pride, all fear of embarrassment or failure – these things just fall away in the face of death, leaving only what is truly important. Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose. You are already naked. There is no reason not to follow your heart.” Steve Jobs

Again, Steve, I *love* what you say about being “already naked” with every reason to follow our hearts. But “I’ll be dead soon” … why oh why oh why would you adopt such a mantra?

We don’t need the fear of death, or even the awareness of death, to be our best selves. We can simply be our best selves because that’s who we really are, because it’s fun, because it’s exhilarating, because it’s the way we want to live.

I was at a Landmark event recently. Landmark, which is meant to be one of the transformational powerhouses on the planet, and I heard one of their leaders tell an entire room full of people that “death and taxes” are inevitable and cannot be changed.

Seriously??? How are we to move forward as a collective consciousness with our leaders promoting these limiting beliefs.

Death is not inevitable. It is a choice. And it is time for us to make a new choice.

It is time for the leaders of transformation to understand:

“Brother, there is no death.” – A Course in Miracles

So I wish we’d had a chance to have this conversation, Steve, and since Erika Awakening does not believe in death, and I know you are not really dead, perhaps we still will ;)
